Issue: Insufficient substances not in the Chk: Named *poly* w/o polymers basic substance group present for classification 5.4.3

The material in question is classified as 5.4.3 – Other duromers. This material classification must contain 5% or more of polymer substances not included in the Basic Substance Group Chk: Named *poly* w/o polymers¹

Per IMDS Recommendation 001a² – This classification is for other duromers such as epoxy resin, melamine resin, phenolic resin, etc. that cannot be classified under 5.4.1 or 5.4.2.

If this is a magnetic material consisting of metal oxides within a plastic matrix, this classification could be correct. The material should be classified based on the composition of the matrix. The matrix substances should not be hidden by a wildcard/joker or marked confidential even if the filler material is 90% or more of the composition of the material.

If the classification is correct and the amount of required substances is less than 5%, add a remark to this material.  For example, This material is correctly classified per IMDS Recommendation 001a Section 1.4 Special Materials. The percentages shown are correct for this material and the warning should be ignored.

You can check for the groups a substance belongs to by highlighting the substance in the tree structure.

Action Required:

Review the material composition and classification and revise as necessary.

¹ You can find the substances included in a basic substance group by searching for the group members in the substance search in IMDS.

² IMDS Recommendations may be downloaded from inside IMDS at Help > Recommendation.
